Greetings golfers, Welcome to the latest edition of the weekly newsletter bringing you all of the goings-on from around the club. Controversy surrounded Martin Dempster’s column in The Scotsman last week about the state of Scottish Golf and the lack of presence on the major Tours around the world. A lot of his points, in my opinion, very valid. However, several Professional golfers out there took offence to what was said. One week later, and there are a few positive that we can look on though, fortunately. Drumoig based golfer Connor Syme, took the decision to turn pro and did so last Monday morning after a very successful amateur career. The 22-year-old went on to finish T12th in the Portugal Masters and pick up his first pay cheque for $29,000. A fantastic start to life in the Professional ranks. Marc Warren had an excellent 2nd place finish to all but secure his Tour Card for the 2018 season. There is no doubt that Scottish Golf isn’t as strong as we would all like to see it, but there is still plenty to be optimistic about. One man not worried about where his next meal is going to come from is Justin Thomas. 5 victories this year, including his first major at The USPGA Championship, helped him win the lucrative FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour. This comes with the small bonus of $10m. Not bad for a 24-year-old. |
