Is there anything more exciting in golf than Tiger Woods making a charge in the last round of a Major?! Although, maybe if it was on the television it would’ve been better, as Tiger shot his lowest ever round in the final of a Major. The lack of television coverage certainly kicked up a lot of controversy in the UK. However, I don’t think it’ll be long before the likes of Amazon are securing the rights for sporting events and online streaming may the only way to view golf in the near future. The European Championships

The European Championships have been in Glasgow for the last couple of weeks, with golf introduced for the first time.

I spent most of Saturday at Gleneagles watching the Mixed Foursomes and then spent a short time on Sunday watching the Men’s & Ladies events. Unfortunately, our visit on Sunday was cut short due to the miserable weather.

Although the field wasn’t full of star studded names, it was great to go along and watch, and I would always recommend to members to take the opportunity to go and watch these players up close, as there is always plenty for you to learn.

USPGA Sweepstake

Strokeplay Championship

We had our 36-hole strokeplay championship last weekend. Well done to my assistant, Scott Clark, on winning the scratch prize with a total of 142. Harry Salmond won the handicap event with a total of 132.

The ladies had their Mitchell Trophy event on Friday night, please see the results below:

Course update

I want to use this opportunity to express the club’s gratitude to our on-course volunteers. With such a small greens team, the efforts from our volunteers are absolutely crucial to maintaining the golf course to such a high standard. Phil Mawhood, Harry Salmond & Gordon Urquhart get through a huge amount of work on a Thursday morning, keeping the place tidy, allowing David and the guys to get on with the rest of their large jobs list every week. The support of Bob Stewart & Ronnie Paterson cutting the practice area every week can, also, not be underestimated. This is a very time-consuming job and your efforts are very much appreciated. We wouldn’t be able to offer the standard of course that we do without all your help.

We are faced with a whole range of scenarios out on the course, some of which we practice regularly and others that we don’t. When you consider the different types of shots you hit around the greens, it really does highlight how versatile your wedges need to be.
