Pro's news

Solheim Cup

What a dramatic end to the Solheim Cup on Sunday and it was great to see Europe lifting the trophy for the first time since 2013. I’m just glad that they managed to get the competition finished on Sunday and that it didn’t run on till Tuesday with the speed they were playing at! I believe the slowest 9 holes of the week was recorded at 3hrs 11mins.

There is absolutely no defence for this, and everyone involved should be ashamed of how long they took to play. At a time when golf is struggling for participation, it’s not great to see one of the biggest golf events being shown on TV to be taking 6 hours for a round.

However, on a more positive note, the number of spectators throughout the week was fantastic and it was great to see Women’s Golf so well supported. I hope that everyone that made it along from Tulliallan had a great time.

Course news

Course Work

With far better weather this week, the coring of the greens went well on Monday & Tuesday. The process of coring the greens, sweeping up the cores and sanding the greens is huge and we are incredibly grateful to the band of volunteers that helped the greens staff this week.

The help provided by Ronnie Paterson, Stevie Lockhart, Phil Mawhood, Barrie Stewart, Harry Salmond, Brian Mackay & Bob Stewart was so crucial to getting the job completed as quickly as possible.

Thank you to all of you on behalf of everyone at the golf club.

Urethane vs Ionomer? Both are materials used on the cover of golf balls but what is the difference between them and how does each affect your game?

Wilson Staff DUO Professional - Urethane cover

You'll usually find that balls at the premium end of the market, like the DUO Professional, have Urethane covers due to its noticeably softer feel and fantastic feedback, which is why they're the go-to choice for many Tour pros.
