Course Update

Last week was a tough week on the bottom 4 holes after the recent heavy rain backed up the storm drains and overpowered the reservoir. The water was flowing down the hillside and caused lots of water to lie on the low lying fairways.

The good news is that this is drying up well and the greens are recovering after the essential core works that were done the previous week.

A trying time indeed and particularly for David and the greens staff who have worked tirelessly to present the course in such fantastic condition this year. Unfortunately, mother nature is unpredictable and the heavy rains have come at the wrong time but we are getting back on track.

Shop News

Things never stop in the Pro Shop and as the summer months are slowly coming to an end, the time is coming for the autumn/winter ranges to start arriving soon.

Crested Glenmuir Sweaters, Padded Gilets and Jackets as well as a small top-up on polo shirts will be arriving from next week.

Under Armour Mid-layers, Fleeces and Beanies will start arriving at the end of August. There will not be a huge amount of back up stock from the companies over winter so if you are looking to add to your wardrobe this autumn, get in quick to see the new ranges before it sells out.

Island Green will be launching their padded Gilets and Jackets early in September and they represent great value from only £39.99!

Club Crested Beanies, Brollys, ProQuip waterproofs and Stuburt boots will all be available also.

Remember we have the new SRIXON metals and irons for fitting next month and the new CLEVELAND wedge fitting cart also. Some fantastic products, all of which I will be playing next year.

I keep preaching about the value of having a lesson with your PGA Professional and this week I fully justify everything that I preach on the subject. A few good results in Saturday's competition from a few of my pupils that had been struggling with their game.

Most notably after his first lesson a couple of weeks ago, Scott Fergus had instant results and won the McIntosh trophy with a nett score of 61! Well done Scott.

There have been some great changes being made to several of my pupils last week and I have highlighted a couple of successful changes below.

Audrey has a fantastic looking swing and great speed and rhythm. A slight reverse pivot with too much weight on left side meant Audrey doesn't create enough turn and backs up through impact causing her to hit behind the ball or shots that go left.

Audrey has great coordination and once shown the correct movement, you can see what a great turn she makes, loading her right side with lots of width. She then turns and moves to her left through impact. The result? Better strike, higher launching shots and more consistency in direction. Brilliant lesson and great work Audrey!

Shaun is a good friend of mine and a former scratch player that has slipped back to 2.

He decided to make the journey through from Glasgow to start working on his game with me.

Arms detaching from the body and over-rotating the clubface producing either pushed shots from the open face or as a good player, he makes corrections on the downswing and overcompensates by closing the clubface and overdrawing his shots left.

Good players cant play with a two way miss and our work on changes started on Friday to eliminate the two-way miss that has plagued his golf.

Squared up clubface and arms working in unison with his body rotation means a better connection between arms and body and the club is more neutral on the backswing and downswing.

This allows Shaun to rotate the body hard through impact without flipping the hands and has eliminated the overdrawn shot. With a more powerful clubface at impact, Shaun has sharpened up his strike and producing a more consistent and penetrating ball flight which will ensure better distance control.

Shaun will see immediate improvement and start chasing his return to scratch soon.

It's great to see
